Memli KELMENDI (Composer, Conductor, and Producer) was born in 1986 in Peja, Kosovo.
He completed his postgraduate studies in conducting (vocal and instrumental) in Prishtina, while for Composition and Music Production – Sound Engineering in North Macedonia. He is currently attending Doctoral Studies for Choir Conducting in the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. His most well-known compositions are: Agnus Dei, Ater Umbra, Silentium Est Pax, Another Noise, Renuo, Dies Lunae etc.
Memli Kelmendi is also known as a film composer. He composed the music and designed the sound for the film “In Between” by director Samir Karahoda, a film that sent Kosovo for the first time to the prestigious film festival “Berlinale” in 2019. The film “Displaced” by the same director and Memli as a composer and sound designer, has been selected among 10 short films to compete for the ‘Golden Palm’ at the prestigious “Festival de Cannes” film festival and in TIFF – (Toronto International Film Festival). The awards enabled Kosovo to be presented with the film “Displaced” in the “Oscars”.- the largest film festival in the world.
His composition for mixed choir “Ater Umbra” (2017) was published in France by the Choir “EVOC Ensemble “and is already a part of the CD from the label “Les Choristes Aux Milles Couleurs “. Another composition “Silentium Est Pax” for the vocal ensemble was performed and recorded last year on the CD of “Sottovoce Ensemble” in Les Musicales de Redon, France.
He completed three years of training in Composition, Musical Theory, and Piano Tuning for Blind Children at the Conservatory “Jana Deyla” – Prague. Memli Kelmendi currently works as a professor at the High Music School ” Halit Kasapolli ” in Peja and also works as a professor at AAB University in Pristina as a lecturer of Film, Theater, Advertizing Music, Orchestration and Choral Conducting. He is a permanent conductor of the choir “Siparantum Choir”, the most popular choir in Kosovo. Siparantum Choir has been selected to represent Kosovo for the first time in history for the first time in the “World Choir Games”-the largest choral music competition in the world. Siparantum choir performance was presented at various festivals in several European countries such as; Belgium, France, Italy, Croatia, Albania, Northern Macedonia, etc. Before the establishment of the Siparantum Choir, Memli was a founder and conductor of the city choir “PEJA”- for a short period. City choir “Peja” performed 4 successful concerts in “Basilica di San Marco”, San Lio, A Jesu Lavoratore in Marghera and Santi Gervasio Protasio-Italy.
His mixed choral composition “Me nji lule – With a Flower” commissioned by Neerpelt – European Music Festival for Young People, has been performed by many participating countries. At this festival, he held a Workshop related to this composition and presented the choral music of Kosovo.
Memli is also the Winner of Scholarship for Conductor (Award given by INTERKULTUR) at the 6th International International Conductor’s Seminar Wernigerode (2019), He was awarded by the Ministry of Culture in Kosovo as a composer in the duo category (2020). He is also a winner of the scholarship at CHORALSPACE – International Academy for Choral Arts, Berlin (2020).
As a composer and conductor he has been presented in many countries around the world; Charleston, New Jersey, New York, Los Angeles California, Florida, Chicago, Czech Republic, Finland, Spain, Austria, Italy, Romania, Philippines, Argentina, UK – London, France, Austria, Croatia, Chile, Bosnia, Turkey, Belgium, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, etc.

Memli Kelmendi is a member of World Choir Council – INTERKULTUR which represents Kosovo for the first time.
